Understand The Concept Of Exposure

Often after buying a good slr digital cameras or point shoot &, we glued on the auto mode for quite a long time. Auto mode is indeed the most easy and fast, but do not provide the satisfaction of creativity.

For those who want to "pass and up the class" of auto mode and want a creative soul passing into the resulting photographs, it's good we understand the concept of exposure. Well-known Photographer Bryan Peterson, has written a book entitled Understanding Exposure which explained the concept of eskposur easily.

Peterson member illustration of three elements that must be known to understand exposure, he named the third relationship as a triangle of photography. Each element in the triangle this photography related to the light, how light entering and interacting with the camera.
These three elements are:

1. ISO a measure of how sensitive the camera sensor to light
2. Aperture how big the lens opens when the photos were taken
3. Shutter Speed time span "in front of the camera sensor window ' is open

The third element of this interaction is called exposure. A change in one element will lead to changes in other elements.

The Parable Of The Triangle Of Exposure

Perhaps the easiest way to understand the exposure is by giving a parable. In this case I like the parable of the triangle of exposure as well as a water faucet.

> Shutter speed for me is how long we open the tap.
> Aperture is how wide we open the tap.
> ISO is a powerful impetus  water from TAPS.
> While water flowing through the taps is a light sensor that received the camera.

Certainly not a perfect parable, but at least we got the basic idea. as you can see, if the exposure is the amount of water coming out of taps, means we can change the value of the exposure by changing one or a combination of these three elements constituting. You change the shutter speed, means changing how long open water tap. Change the Aperture means changing how much water discharge while changing how strong the urge of water from its source.
